Has Invisalign Gotten Better?

According to the AAO, it’s estimated that almost 50% to 75% of people can benefit from some sort of orthodontic treatment. When Invisalign was first invented in 1997, there were many hoops to jump through in convincing people that clear aligners could succeed in aligning someone’s teeth. So for many people who still have doubts but are looking to align their teeth today, this brings up the question, has Invisalign gotten better?

The Cost

If you’re looking for a moderately priced option for teeth alignment, Invisalign might be exactly what you’re looking for. With Invisalign, a plan is set ahead of time to get your teeth from where they were to where you want them to be. Whereas other orthodontists may charge up to $10,000 for Invisalign, TruSmile Orthodontics has a price range from $2850-$6249! It is advisable to always ask for a quote from your orthodontist to get an appropriate estimate.

The Movement

Once you get past the initial cost, the next question that gets brought up is, does it actually do a good job of moving your teeth? There was a study performed by the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics that compared results from Invisalign in patients from 2009 to patients in 2020. The results did improve a decent amount, going from 41% alignment to 50% alignment. Although this may not seem like a huge jump, if you don’t need a large amount of movement in your teeth, Invisalign can be the perfect option for you.

The Details

To further examine the movement in a patient’s teeth, the most significant movement was in the buccal-lingual crown tips, which makes sense because this is the area where Invisalign has the most flex. However, where Invisalign is much weaker is the rotation of the teeth. The rotation has always been a tough issue to tackle, so if rotation is your primary focus, traditional braces may be the better route for you. But if you only need mild alignment, Invisalign can be perfect for you.

It’s important to consult an orthodontist on whether or not it could be right for you. Give TruSmile Orthodontics a call to see if this solution could be what you’re looking for!
