Which Orthodontic Method Is Right for Your Lifestyle?

If you’re looking to straighten out your smile, you’ll find that you have several options. Which orthodontic treatments should you select? That’ll often depend on the extent of your condition and various aspects of your lifestyle, including what you eat, how good you are at cleaning, and what physical activities you participate in. Let’s cover some of the most popular orthodontic treatments and when they might be a good fit.

Traditional Braces

When you think of teeth straightening solutions, you probably first think of metal braces. For a long time, metal braces were practically a rite of passage for many kids. Braces have helped countless people improve their smiles, and with severely misaligned teeth, they may be the best solution.

That said, many adults would rather not wear metal braces as they are quite noticeable and are associated with teens. Traditional braces can also be hard to care for, and you may have to skip some of your favorite foods, like popcorn. Your braces might also be at risk if you’re involved in a contact sport. As a result, depending on the condition of your teeth, you may be more inclined to use Invisalign.

Invisalign

Invisalign is one of the most popular orthodontic solutions, and for good reason. These aligners are highly effective and work well with practically any lifestyle. While extremely misaligned smiles may require traditional braces, Invisalign can reshape some severe misalignments.

These orthodontics are an excellent choice for most folks who want a discrete, relatively low-maintenance teeth straightening solution. They can be taken out of your mouth when you eat and brush your teeth. This means you can continue to enjoy most foods and drinks. Given these benefits, it should come as no surprise that, according to Forbes, more than 12.8 million people have reshaped their smile with Invisalign.

While many people love Invisalign, you may not be a good candidate if your teeth need a little more care. In this case, you may need traditional braces first and can later transition to Invisalign to finish out your orthodontic treatment. Additionally, Invisalign requires discipline on the part of the patient. If you forget to put your aligners in for the right amount of time, for example, it could take longer to see the results you want.

InBrace

These braces look vaguely similar to traditional metal braces. However, they are installed behind your teeth, making them very discrete. They are also left in place throughout treatment and don’t require as many adjustments as some other types of braces. If you need a low-maintenance solution, these braces are a good option. Unfortunately, InBrace only works with certain-sized jaws, so it’s recommended to consult with your orthodontist if you’re considering this option.
